Before that time, farm toy collectors were "closet collectors": they collected farm toys but kept it to themselves because they thought people would think they were crazy! Some collectors want the farm toys from their childhood. Others want farm toys that represent the real machinery they had on the farm. Farm toys cover all makes in many different scales: 1/12, 1/16, 1/32, 1/43, 1/64 and a few others. There is a price range and a scale of farm toys for everyone. There are many people that make custom farm toys that are very high-detailed models. These farm toys are very desirable and expensive. There are several manufacturers of farm toys -- three of them are located in Dyersville, Iowa (ERTL, SCALE MODELS, and SPEC CAST). Dyersville is also the home of the National Farm Toy Show and the Summer Farm Toy Show. The National Farm Toy Show is held the first full weekend every November and attracts about 20,000 people to the town of 4,000 people! The Summer Farm Toy Show is held the first weekend in June and also has a very large attendance. There are many other farm toy shows around the country to attend throughout the year.
